Foursquare: Another Player in the Social Media Circus

So I recently read several blogs/articles about another player in the social media realm: Foursquare.  Foursquare is a social city-guide combined with a game, housed on your cell phone/mobile device, that allows users to keep up with the places they and their friends visit.  It also encourages users to discover new places, groups, businesses, communities, etc., by setting it in a fun and competitive-type of atmosphere, i.e. “game like”. Check them out online Foursquare.com.

In addition to regular users and businesses, a lot of advocacy groups are using foursquare  for campaigns, issues, and to elicit more supporters.  It seems to be a quick way to mobilize groups of people around a cause or event as well.

This is one example of how campaigns have been rallying supporters using foursquare: More Foursquare for Advocacy

Libretto has not used this technology yet for its public involvement activities or campaigns but it is something to keep an eye on. We are interested in hearing from anyone who has used foursquare and if it has longevity in the social media circus.
